About Katherine
Katherine Leung is a British born dance artist, designer and performance maker of Scottish, Irish and Hong Kong Chinese descent. Currently living and working in Berlin, Germany.
Dance and installation design are her two chosen mediums for her artistic expression.
She originally trained as a dancer in classical ballet and contemporary dance in Hong Kong and London.
After studying at London Metropolitian University, she began to work extensively within the theatre scene in London under the various backstage roles, familiarising herself with the creative process of production development from start to finish.
She then attended Central Saint Martins, UAL, for a Masters program in Performance Design and Practice, to pursue her passion in artistic expression through performance making.
With extensive knowledge and influence through her theatre roots, she continues to make independent work which primarily explores the human body within interdisciplinary practices.
She has since performed, collaborated, devised and created original productions alongside various artists across different artistic disciplines on both small and large scale productions, performed within Europe including: United Kingdom (London), Greece (Athens), Italy (Ancona/Polverigi), Luxembourg (Steinfort), Norway (Bergen) and Germany (Berlin/Frankfurt).
She has taken an interest in the multiple possibilities of the moving body in film, interactive installations, the live body within visual art, performance documentation, identity, censorship, the emotional body and public participatory art.
